The Nigerian Army has reacted to reports of the torture and killing of a police officer, one Inspector Monday Orukpe by some soldiers on Wednesday, August 3, over a traffic gridlock disagreement along Lagos/Badagry Expressway, the Nigerian Army 81 Division.
LIB had shared the story of how some soldiers while on their way to the Military Ordinance school in Ojo allegedly assaulted some police officers managing traffic along the Lagos-Badagry expressway. The military officers were said to have descended on the officers for causing their coastal bus to stay in traffic. They allegedly assaulted the police officers leading to the death of one of them now identified as Inspector Monday Orukpe.
In a statement released today August 5, the Nigerian Army 81 Division Acting Deputy Director, Public Relations, Major Olaniyi Osoba, commiserated with the Ojo Police Division and members of the family of the victim. He stated that the Division has instituted a Board of Inquiry to unravel the circumstance surrounding the unfortunate incident.
He said that at the end of the investigation, anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the disciplinary provisions. The statement reads;
”The attention of the 81 Division has been drawn to a story online over the unfortunate incident that occurred between some soldiers and policemen around Ojo in Lagos resulting in the loss of the life of a police officer.
The Division is already in touch with the Lagos State Police Command to resolve the matter . This incident is highly regrettable given the Division’s disposition and zero tolerance for any misconduct.
Accordingly, the Division has instituted a Board of Inquiry to unravel the circumstance surrounding the unfortunate incident
At the end of the investigation, anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the disciplinary provisions..
Consequently, the Division wishes to commiserate with the Ojo Police Division and members of the family of the victim.”
