The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has joined millions of believers in mourning the death of Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai, the revered evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, who passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
In a condolence message released on Monday, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, described the late Ukpai as “a towering figure in the Nigerian church” whose ministry touched lives across denominations, nations, and generations.
“Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai was a faithful servant of God, a teacher of the Word, and a vessel of healing and hope. For more than six decades, he dedicated his life to preaching the gospel, lifting the brokenhearted, and pointing men and women to Christ. His legacy will continue to inspire,” Archbishop Okoh said.
A Life of Faith and Service
Known for his healing crusades, evangelistic outreaches, and works of charity, Reverend Ukpai became one of Nigeria’s most prominent evangelists, spreading the gospel with passion and humility. His ministry was defined by faith, simplicity, and an unyielding commitment to the salvation of souls.
Archbishop Okoh noted that Ukpai’s teachings and acts of service strengthened the church and encouraged unity within the body of Christ. “Through his crusades, writings, and relentless evangelism, he built bridges of faith across regions and denominations, leaving an indelible mark on the Christian community,” he said.
Comfort to the Family
The CAN President extended heartfelt condolences to Ukpai’s wife, Reverend Dr. Philomena Uma Ukpai, the entire Ukpai family, and members of his ministry.
“On behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria, we stand with his family in this moment of grief. May God’s presence bring them comfort, and may his memory continue to inspire the church and the nation,” Okoh stated.
A Legacy That Lives On
Beyond his preaching, Reverend Ukpai was widely celebrated for his humanitarian work and his role in mentoring younger ministers of the gospel. His passing has left a void in the Nigerian Christian community, but his legacy of faith, service, and dedication to Christ is expected to endure for generations.
As tributes pour in from across Nigeria and beyond, the name Uma Ukpai remains synonymous with revival, evangelism, and hope.
