Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months imprisonment following his conviction by a Magistrate Court.
Portable was found guilty of several charges including assault and resisting arrest. The charges stemmed from an incident earlier this year where the singer was captured on video confronting police officers during an attempted arrest at his bar in Ogun State.
Delivering the judgment, the presiding magistrate ruled that Portable would serve three months in prison without the option of a fine. The court emphasized that the sentence should serve as a deterrent against obstructing law enforcement officers in the discharge of their duties.
Portable, who gained fame for his breakout hit “Zazoo Zeh,” appeared subdued during the proceedings and was immediately taken into custody following the sentencing.
The artist’s legal team has indicated that they are reviewing the judgment and may consider filing an appeal.
This development marks a significant moment in Portable’s controversial career, which has often been marred by brushes with the law and public outbursts.
