Pep Guardiola has suggested that he “cannot talk” on reports linking Manchester City with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

The forward’s £63m release clause becomes active this summer. He has been with Dortmund since the start of 2020.

The 21-year-old has grabbed 85 goals and 21 assists from his 88 appearances for the German outfit.

The £200m Erling Haaland nonsense that helps prove Pep Guardiola’s Man City point

Haaland has missed ten league games through injury during this term but he has still netted 21 times from his 23 outings.

It was reported on Monday that Haaland’s move to Man City will be confirmed this week. The English outfit are understood to have agreed personal terms with the striker.

Speaking on Tuesday afternoon, Guardiola insisted that he was “not allowed to say anything” about Haaland:

“Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City have told me I am not allowed to say anything until the deal is completely done,” Guardiola told reporters (via BBC Sport).

“I cannot talk I am sorry. We will have time to talk.”

Guardiola was also asked about how City will be impacted by having a number nine like Haaland next season:

“We have a number nine now,” he says. “We have I guess new players in the squad, some from the academy come up next season. New players always helps to be a stronger team. But not one defender or striker will solve our defensive or scoring problems.

“Not me, the club always has to have a vision for the future. The decisions the club makes I am aware and supportive 100%.”

Man City are back in action on Wednesday evening as they travel to Molineux to face Bruno Lage’s Wolves.

It has already been confirmed that Ruben Dias, John Stones and Kyle Walker will miss the rest of this season through injury.

Guardiola believes City’s strengths in other positions will help to “solve” their “problems” in defence:

“Nothing has changed. After the Newcastle game, we go into the last three games with the players we have and go for it. We have problems in one department and the others will solve it. We go for it.”
