The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will release the results of the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by Wednesday. The resit, which was conducted for over 379,000 candidates who experienced technical issues or other disruptions during the main UTME, was held to ensure fairness and equal opportunity in the assessment process.
Background to the Resit
The decision to hold a resit for the affected candidates came after widespread reports of technical glitches during the initial UTME in April 2025. Candidates from various states had raised concerns about biometric failures, server delays, and power outages that disrupted the smooth conduct of the examination. In response, JAMB launched an investigation and subsequently scheduled a resit for those affected, reaffirming its commitment to integrity, fairness, and transparency in the national examination process.
Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, stated that the board would not allow technical shortcomings to affect candidates’ futures. “It is our duty to ensure that all candidates have an equal and fair opportunity to be assessed. The resit was necessary to restore credibility and provide justice to those whose exams were compromised,” he said.
Smooth Conduct and Prompt Processing
According to JAMB, the resit examination was conducted across the country with improved logistics, additional monitoring, and technical backup. The board worked closely with accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres to avoid a repeat of the earlier challenges. Reports from observers indicated that the resit went smoothly in most centres, with minimal complaints from candidates.
Oloyede disclosed that result processing began immediately after the conclusion of the resit. The board utilized advanced data analytics to detect potential malpractices while ensuring that genuine candidates’ scores were processed accurately and efficiently. “We are currently at the final stage of processing and vetting the results. By Wednesday, candidates will be able to check their scores using the designated result-checking platforms,” he said.
What Candidates Should Expect
Candidates who sat for the resit have been advised to check the JAMB website (www.jamb.gov.ng) or use the SMS short code service to access their results once they are released. JAMB has also warned against relying on third-party websites and urged candidates to be wary of scammers claiming to offer assistance with score upgrades or admissions.
Education stakeholders and parents have welcomed JAMB’s swift response and transparency. Many expressed confidence that the board’s corrective measures will uphold the credibility of the examination system and restore candidates’ confidence.
Next Steps and Admissions Process
With the release of the resit results, JAMB is expected to proceed with the next phase of the 2025 admission cycle. The Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) will be activated to allow tertiary institutions to begin offering admission to qualified candidates based on merit and institutional requirements.
Candidates are reminded to upload their O’level results on the JAMB portal and monitor their admission status regularly. Those who may not have performed well have also been encouraged to explore alternative options such as polytechnics, colleges of education, or vocational training institutions.
JAMB’s decision to hold a resit for over 379,000 candidates and release their results promptly demonstrates a strong commitment to fairness and accountability. As the education sector continues to navigate technological transitions, the board’s efforts to adapt and ensure inclusive testing will remain crucial to the integrity of Nigeria’s higher education admissions system.
