US president Joe Biden has tripped and fallen while handing out diplomas at a graduation ceremony for the US Air Force Academy in Colorado.
Joe Biden jokes about falling on stage
Biden, the nation’s oldest serving president at 80, was helped back up to his feet and appeared to be unhurt.
The president had been standing for about an hour and a half to shake hands with each of the 921 graduating cadets.
According to the White House communications director, the president is doing fine, and there should be no cause for alarm.
“There was a sandbag on stage while he was shaking hands,” Ben LaBolt wrote on Twitter after Thursday’s fall.
The president also is said to have made a joke about the fall when he returned to the White House in the evening.
“I got sandbagged,” he said.
BBC reported that a White House press pool report earlier said Biden had tripped on a black sandbag while moving on stage.
A video emerged online showing Biden pointing at one of two sandbags used to prop up his teleprompter as he was helped up by an Air Force official and two members of his Secret Service detail.
Before his fall, he was seen walking back to his seat unassisted and later jogging back to his motorcade when the ceremony ended shortly after the accident.

Here are some of the comments from social media users:
“In this case, laughing isn’t appropriate, just pray for the country and his health. And move on.”
“Didn’t Biden make fun of former President Donald Trump because he walked slowly down the stairs once?”
“I gasped. Hope he’s ok!”
“Age limits and term limits, please.”
Biden falls while climbing Airforce One
The US president had in 2021 suffered a minor accident while climbing the steps of Air Force One.
Biden was heading for a meeting with Asian American community leaders in Atlanta, Georgia where he stumbled while climbing the plane.
A video from Hill TV showed the 78-year-old president gripping the railing to steady himself as he lost his footing three times.
The White House later dismissed concerns about Biden’s health.
