Supporters of former Kano State governor and senator, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, have thrown their weight behind a proposed joint presidential ticket pairing him with former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The call was made on Friday in Kano by Abba Gwale, leader of the Kwankwaso Support Group 2027, who said the alliance represents a credible alternative capable of steering Nigeria out of its current socio-economic difficulties.
Gwale explained that the group, as staunch loyalists of Kwankwaso, believes the time is right to mobilise Nigerians behind an Obi–Kwankwaso ticket, regardless of the political platform under which it emerges. According to him, recent political developments indicate a clear shift in public sentiment.
He argued that if both leaders secure the mandate of Nigerians in the next election, the country would experience meaningful improvement, noting that widespread insecurity, hunger, and economic hardship have left citizens deeply frustrated.
The proposed alliance, he said, is designed to unite Obi’s strong grassroots following in the South with Kwankwaso’s solid political base in the North, forming a broad national coalition that could significantly challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gwale added that the partnership is driven by a shared resolve to unseat the APC and introduce governance focused on the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. He noted that both Obi and Kwankwaso have consistently projected themselves as leaders committed to uplifting the common man, a stance that has endeared them to many voters.
Hailing from the same constituency as Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Gwale further stated that growing dissatisfaction with the current administration is fueling support for the proposed ticket. He said their message of hope and change is gaining traction across the country, positioning the duo as a serious political force.
As the 2027 election draws closer, Gwale said attention will be focused on how the Obi–Kwankwaso movement converts rising public enthusiasm into electoral success, stressing that the pair is determined to usher in a new political direction for Nigeria.
Reacting to claims that Kwankwaso demanded a large share of political appointments as a condition for aligning with the ruling APC, Gwale dismissed such reports as unreasonable. He maintained that any demands made by the former governor were fair and aimed at accommodating his supporters nationwide.
According to him, Kwankwaso’s support base cuts across all regions of the country, particularly among low-income Nigerians struggling to survive under harsh economic conditions.
