A Department of State Services (DSS) official testified in the Federal High Court in Abuja on May 2, 2025, stating that Simon Ekpa, a self-acclaimed disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, will soon be extradited from Finland to Nigeria to face trial for supporting the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and allegedly inciting violence.

Details:

  • Witness Testimony: The witness, identified as “AAA,” is a DSS operative who was part of the team that arrested Nnamdi Kanu in 2015. Under cross-examination by Kanu’s lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi, the witness confirmed that Ekpa had been arrested and was undergoing extradition proceedings.

  • Charges Against Ekpa: Ekpa is accused of supporting IPOB and inciting violence. The witness did not provide details of other individuals facing trial for similar actions but emphasized Ekpa’s involvement.

  • Court Proceedings: The Federal High Court, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, has adjourned the case to May 6, 7, and 8, 2025, for further hearings.

Background: Simon Ekpa is known for his support of Nnamdi Kanu and the Biafra agitation. His extradition is part of Nigeria’s efforts to address activities related to IPOB and its supporters.

  • A Finnish court has reportedly approved Ekpa’s extradition to Nigeria, with the transfer scheduled for July 15, 2025.

  • The Nigerian government has declared Ekpa and 15 others as financiers of terrorism.
