Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja. This development was confirmed on Friday, May 2, 2025, by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, who announced the detention via his official Facebook page.

The arrest is reportedly linked to VDM’s public criticism of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) following alleged unauthorized transactions on his mother’s account. It is alleged that GTBank may have initiated the arrest in response to these criticisms.

In a subsequent update, Adeyanju revealed that a team of lawyers from his firm, led by Marvin Omorogbe, met with VDM’s associate who was detained alongside him at the EFCC facility. However, specific details regarding the charges or the conditions of their detention have not been disclosed.

This incident adds to VDM’s history of confrontations with law enforcement agencies. Notably, in October 2024, he was detained by the Nigeria Police Force after responding to an invitation concerning a video in which he appeared wearing a police uniform, an act that led to allegations of impersonation.

In a tweet on Friday, May 2, Adeyanju disclosed that he would take legal actions against GTBank and the security agency involved in VDM’s arrest if he was not released with immediate effect.

The arrest has sparked reactions from Nigerian netizens, with some supporting VDM’s demand for accountability, while others have expressed differing views.
