Yemen’s Huthi rebels have claimed responsibility for a missile attack that struck near a major Israeli airport, marking a significant escalation in the group’s long-range offensive operations. According to initial reports, the projectile landed in the vicinity of the airport, prompting brief disruptions to air traffic but causing no immediate casualties or major damage.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed an explosion near the airport area and stated that investigations are underway to determine the exact trajectory and launch origin of the missile. Preliminary assessments suggest the missile may have been launched from Yemen, highlighting the expanding reach of the Huthi arsenal and the widening scope of regional tensions.
In a statement released through their media channels, the Iran-backed Huthi group declared the strike as part of what they describe as a campaign in solidarity with Palestinians, citing Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza and other occupied territories.
Israeli authorities have raised the national alert level and reinforced air defense systems, particularly around critical infrastructure and major population centers. Flights were temporarily rerouted or delayed but resumed shortly after clearance from aviation security units.
This latest incident follows a series of drone and missile attacks by the Huthis targeting Israel and ships in the Red Sea, drawing international concern over the growing instability in the region and the risk of broader conflict.
Global leaders have called for restraint, urging all parties to avoid provocations that could further destabilize the already volatile Middle East landscape.
