Brazilian authorities have confirmed the successful disruption of a bomb plot aimed at Lady Gaga’s upcoming concert in Rio de Janeiro, averting what could have been a catastrophic incident. The high-profile show, part of the global pop icon’s tour, was scheduled to take place at a major venue in the city with tens of thousands of fans expected in attendance.
According to the Rio Civil Police, intelligence units intercepted online communications and suspicious activity that led them to a group allegedly planning to detonate an explosive device near the concert venue. A swift counterterrorism operation led to multiple arrests and the seizure of materials believed to be linked to bomb-making efforts.
“Thanks to rapid coordination between cybercrime investigators and tactical response teams, we neutralized the threat before it could pose any danger to the public,” said Police Chief Renato Alves during a press briefing on Saturday.
The suspects, whose identities have not yet been released, are reportedly under investigation for terrorism-related offenses and conspiracy to commit a crime. Authorities are also probing potential links to extremist groups or ideological motives behind the planned attack.
Lady Gaga’s team issued a brief statement expressing gratitude to Brazilian authorities for their vigilance and confirmed that the concert would go ahead as planned under heightened security measures. Additional police units and surveillance have been deployed around the venue to ensure the safety of attendees.
Fans and officials alike have praised the timely intervention, which prevented potential tragedy and highlighted the importance of continued vigilance at large public events.
