The call for the release of popular Nigerian figure VDM (Victor Dele Maja) from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) custody is gaining momentum, as a diverse group of celebrities, musicians, politicians, and even international figures are rallying behind him. VDM, a well-known entrepreneur and socialite, was arrested last week by the EFCC over alleged financial offenses, sparking widespread public outcry.

Many prominent Nigerian musicians, including industry giants like Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, have used their social media platforms to voice their support for VDM. They argue that the charges against him are politically motivated and that his continued detention is an infringement on his rights. “VDM is innocent until proven guilty. We stand by him and demand his release,” one prominent musician tweeted, echoing the sentiments of many fans.

Politicians across party lines have also weighed in, with key figures from the Nigerian Senate and the House of Representatives calling for a fair and transparent process. Senator Olufemi Adebayo of Lagos State issued a statement stressing the importance of due process in all legal matters, while former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar expressed concern over the political undertones of the arrest.

International celebrities have also joined the chorus of voices calling for VDM’s release. A number of global personalities, including British actor Idris Elba and American rapper Meek Mill, took to social media to show solidarity with VDM, stating that they believe the charges against him are unjust.

Legal experts are now closely watching the case, with many noting that public pressure may influence the trajectory of the investigation. “While the EFCC has the right to carry out its duties, the growing calls for VDM’s release suggest that public opinion is becoming an important factor,” said legal analyst Nkechi Okwu.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen whether the continued outcry will lead to a swift resolution of the case, or if VDM will remain in detention as the investigation unfolds.
