The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially confirmed the arrest of social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, following multiple petitions filed against him.

In a statement released on Monday, the EFCC revealed that the arrest was based on credible complaints submitted by various individuals and groups, alleging cyberbullying, defamation, and other offenses.

“VeryDarkMan was taken into custody after the Commission received several petitions bordering on alleged criminal activities online,” the statement read. “Investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court as soon as the process is concluded.”

The Commission, however, did not provide specific details of the petitions or the identities of the petitioners. It maintained that due process would be followed and that the public should avoid speculation.

VeryDarkMan, known for his controversial commentaries and bold criticisms on social media, had been the subject of trending discussions over the weekend amid reports of his arrest. The confirmation from EFCC has now put an end to the initial uncertainty surrounding the case.

The agency reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all accused persons are given fair hearings in accordance with the Nigerian constitution.
