Popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has responded after being questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the extravagant display of cash during her daughter Priscilla’s recent wedding celebration. The EFCC invited the actress as part of its ongoing clampdown on the public abuse of the naira, especially at high-profile events where money is often sprayed in large quantities in violation of the country’s currency regulations.

The star-studded wedding, which drew the attention of fans and the public alike, featured moments of guests spraying bundles of naira notes — a tradition common at Nigerian parties but increasingly scrutinized by authorities. The EFCC, in its effort to enforce Section 21(5) of the Central Bank Act which criminalizes the abuse of the naira, reportedly summoned Iyabo Ojo for questioning regarding her role in the display.

In her response, Iyabo Ojo took to social media to address the situation. While she confirmed that she honored the invitation and cooperated fully with the Commission, she maintained that she had no intention of violating any laws. “I respect the laws of the land, and I’m always willing to answer any questions from the authorities,” she said in a statement posted on her Instagram page. She also emphasized that her daughter’s wedding was a celebration of love and culture, not a deliberate act of currency abuse.

Fans and supporters have since flooded her comment sections with messages of encouragement, while others have debated the appropriateness of EFCC’s continued focus on entertainers and celebrities over more pressing financial crimes.

The EFCC has not issued a formal statement on the outcome of Iyabo Ojo’s questioning, but the incident serves as another reminder of the agency’s resolve to discourage naira abuse at public events — a cultural practice that, while long entrenched, now faces increasing legal consequences.

As discussions continue, many Nigerians are calling for a clearer understanding of the laws governing public celebrations and currency handling, while also urging the EFCC to ensure equal application of the law across all sectors.
