Senate President Godswill Akpabio has taken a swipe at Labour Party (LP) chieftain Peter Obi, urging him to address the internal crisis within his party before nurturing any ambitions for the presidency.

Speaking during a recent event in Abuja, Akpabio commented on the ongoing leadership tussles and organizational rifts plaguing the Labour Party. He suggested that a party battling internal instability cannot realistically position itself to govern a country as complex as Nigeria.

“You can’t be dreaming of Aso Rock when your own political house is in disarray,” Akpabio stated pointedly, in what many saw as a direct jab at Obi’s rumored 2027 presidential bid. “Leadership starts with order. If you can’t fix your party, how can you fix a nation?”

The Labour Party has faced persistent leadership disputes since the 2023 general elections, with factions battling for control and raising concerns about the party’s future cohesion.

While Peter Obi has yet to officially declare his intentions for the next election cycle, his rising popularity and frequent political engagements continue to fuel speculation.

Akpabio’s remarks appear aimed at dampening that momentum, framing Obi’s ambitions as premature given the LP’s unresolved challenges.
