The Delta State Police Command has officially responded to a viral video circulating on social media in which a woman accused police officers of assaulting her husband, who holds dual Ghanaian and German citizenship. The video, which has garnered widespread attention and sparked public outcry, prompted the police to issue a statement addressing the allegations and assuring the public of a thorough investigation.

In the video, the woman alleges that her husband was unlawfully detained and subjected to physical violence by officers of the Delta State Police Force. The incident reportedly occurred during an encounter at a security checkpoint in Delta State, raising concerns about police conduct and the treatment of foreign nationals.

In an official press release, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said the command takes such allegations seriously and is committed to upholding the rule of law and human rights. “We are aware of the viral video and have launched an immediate investigation into the claims of assault against the Ghanaian/German national. The Police Command does not condone any form of unlawful treatment or misconduct by its officers,” DSP Edafe stated.

He further assured that the investigation would be transparent, and appropriate disciplinary actions would be taken if any officers are found culpable. “We urge the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course. The Delta State Police Command is dedicated to maintaining peace, security, and respect for all persons within our jurisdiction,” he added.

The incident has sparked conversations on social media about police accountability and the treatment of foreign nationals in Nigeria. Human rights groups have called for an impartial inquiry and stressed the importance of safeguarding the rights of all residents and visitors.

Meanwhile, the woman involved has expressed frustration over what she described as delayed responses from authorities and has called for justice for her husband. The Police Command, however, reassured the public that the matter is being handled with urgency.

The Delta State Police Command’s swift response reflects the increasing demand for transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies, especially in incidents that attract international attention.
