White House Unveils a New Official Portrait of President Trump - The New York Times

In a historic moment marking his unprecedented return to the Oval Office, the White House has unveiled the new official portrait of President Donald J. Trump, the 47th President of the United States. This portrait signifies Trump’s return to power following his successful 2024 election campaign, making him only the second U.S. president in history, after Grover Cleveland, to serve two non-consecutive terms.

The newly released image features President Trump in a formal pose, dressed in a tailored navy suit and red tie, standing confidently before the American flag and the presidential seal. Captured by the official White House photographer, the portrait is intended to reflect both continuity and renewal, symbolizing Trump’s political resilience and enduring influence on American politics.

The portrait will now be displayed in federal buildings, U.S. embassies around the world, and public institutions, replacing the previous official photograph taken during his first term as the 45th president. It also joins the rotating gallery of presidential portraits in the West Wing and will be archived by the National Archives and Records Administration.

The release of the new portrait has sparked wide reactions across the political spectrum. Supporters hail it as a moment of vindication and a powerful visual statement of Trump’s political comeback. Critics, meanwhile, remain sharply divided over his return to office and what it signifies for the nation’s future.

In a brief statement, the White House said the portrait “captures the spirit of a president who remains focused on restoring American strength, prosperity, and leadership at home and abroad.”

As President Trump begins his second term under renewed scrutiny and heightened expectations, the unveiling of his official portrait as the 47th president marks the beginning of a new chapter — one that promises to be as consequential and polarizing as his last.
