In a shocking and emotional revelation, Yinka Edochie, the new wife of Nollywood actor Linc Edochie, has publicly claimed that she has been receiving death threats from individuals claiming to be supporters of May Edochie, the first wife of Linc’s brother, Yul Edochie.
Taking to social media on Wednesday, Yinka posted a tearful video in which she expressed fear for her life, saying that a group identifying themselves as “May Nation” has been sending her threatening messages and hate-filled comments since news of her marriage to Linc surfaced online.
“I never imagined that loving someone and getting married would come with people wishing me dead,” Yinka said in the emotional video. “These people say they represent May Edochie, and they keep telling me I’ll regret ever becoming a part of the Edochie family.”
Tensions Within the Edochie Circle
The Edochie family has been at the center of public and online controversy ever since Yul Edochie, Linc’s younger brother and fellow Nollywood actor, introduced a second wife, Judy Austin, leading to the collapse of his marriage with May Edochie. The situation sparked an outpouring of support for May, who won the hearts of many Nigerians for her grace and resilience.
This latest development appears to be a spillover from the prolonged family drama, as Yinka Edochie now finds herself in the crossfire of loyalists who see any new female addition to the Edochie household as a betrayal to May.
While Linc has largely kept a low profile amid the turmoil surrounding his brother, the announcement of his new marriage has reignited online attacks from those who see it as insensitivity to May’s ongoing pain.
Online Abuse Turns to Threats
Screenshots shared by Yinka show direct messages and emails with threatening language, including disturbing phrases like “you won’t live long enough to enjoy this marriage” and “May Nation watches everything.”
Yinka said she initially tried to ignore the messages, assuming they were from internet trolls. But as the volume and intensity grew, she decided to speak out publicly for her safety and to bring awareness to the dangers of online harassment.
“This is not just trolling anymore. This is a threat to my life. What kind of society have we become where people are punished for loving or moving forward?” she asked her followers.
Reactions and Support
Since her post, reactions have poured in from fans, celebrities, and rights advocates. While some have expressed skepticism and questioned the legitimacy of the threats, others have condemned the vitriol directed at Yinka.
Fellow actress Destiny Etiko commented, “Nobody deserves this kind of hate. Whether or not you agree with someone’s choices, threatening a life is criminal.”
The Nigerian Police have yet to issue a statement on the matter, though legal experts suggest Yinka could pursue cyberbullying and criminal intimidation charges under Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act of 2015.
Linc Edochie Remains Silent
As of now, Linc Edochie has not addressed the issue publicly. Known for maintaining a relatively private life compared to his brother Yul, Linc has not posted about the marriage or the threats on his verified social media pages.
Sources close to the family say he is “disturbed and furious” about the threats and is considering legal action alongside his wife.
A Plea for Peace
In her concluding remarks, Yinka made a direct plea to “May Nation” and other fans:
“You can support your favorite without hating others. May Edochie is a strong woman, and I respect her, but I am not her enemy. I am just a woman who fell in love. Please let me live in peace.”
As the drama continues to unfold, the incident once again raises serious questions about fan culture, social media toxicity, and the growing threat of cyber harassment in Nigerian society.
