A Game-Changer in Everyday Driving
Shell, one of the world’s leading energy and petrochemical companies, has unveiled a breakthrough in fuel technology with the launch of its new 15km-plus fuel formula—an innovation that promises to redefine fuel efficiency for millions of drivers globally. The new product, developed after years of research and testing, is engineered to deliver up to 15 kilometers more per tank without any changes to driving behavior or vehicle type.
In a world where fuel prices are consistently volatile and environmental concerns are on the rise, improved fuel economy isn’t just a convenience — it’s a necessity. Shell’s new formulation addresses both consumer demands and sustainability targets, allowing motorists to go farther on every fill-up while also reducing their overall carbon emissions.
The announcement was made during Shell’s Global Mobility Conference, where the company emphasized the product’s potential to lower fuel costs, reduce carbon footprints, and extend vehicle performance. With advanced fuel additives and enhanced engine cleaning properties, Shell’s new blend improves engine efficiency by minimizing friction and preventing the build-up of performance-hindering deposits.
“We understand that consumers want better mileage and value,” said Dr. Maria Hendriks, Head of Fuel Innovation at Shell. “Our new formula not only delivers that, but also supports the environment by promoting cleaner engine operations, which in turn helps reduce emissions.”
What’s Inside the New Formula?
At the heart of Shell’s 15km-plus formula is a new generation of performance-enhancing additives that optimize combustion and keep engines cleaner for longer. These additives include advanced friction modifiers and deposit-control agents that improve fuel flow, combustion efficiency, and engine responsiveness.
One of the key enhancements is a specially engineered molecule Shell calls “Dynaflow+,” which is designed to create a microscopic lubricating film on engine surfaces, reducing friction by up to 30%. This allows parts to move more freely, reducing energy loss and improving overall fuel economy.
Additionally, the fuel contains enhanced detergents that actively clean the fuel injectors and combustion chambers. Over time, this helps restore lost engine performance and maintain peak efficiency even in older or high-mileage vehicles.
Field tests conducted across various vehicle types — from compact cars and sedans to SUVs and light trucks — confirmed consistent results: an average increase of 12 to 15 kilometers per full tank under normal driving conditions. Drivers also reported smoother engine sound, quicker acceleration, and overall better driving experience.
Shell’s latest development is available in both petrol and diesel variants, ensuring that a broad range of consumers can benefit, regardless of their vehicle type. It is compatible with all existing engines and does not require any special installation or modifications.
A Step Forward for Drivers and the Planet
The launch of Shell’s 15km-plus fuel is also part of a broader strategy to align with global climate goals and reduce vehicle emissions without compromising performance. By enabling drivers to travel farther with less fuel, Shell’s new formula contributes to lower CO₂ emissions per kilometer — a vital step as nations push toward carbon neutrality and greener transportation options.
According to Shell’s estimates, if just 10% of motorists in a country like Nigeria, India, or the UK adopted this fuel, the cumulative environmental benefit could be significant, saving thousands of barrels of fuel and reducing tons of carbon emissions annually.
Moreover, the formula plays an essential role in transitional energy strategies, where traditional combustion engines continue to dominate roadways even as electric vehicles rise. For many developing nations where EV infrastructure is limited, improving the efficiency of conventional fuels is a crucial and immediate way to reduce environmental impact.
The fuel is already available at select Shell stations in Europe and Asia, with a global rollout planned by early 2026. Shell has also partnered with automotive manufacturers and fleet operators to test the formula in commercial settings, such as ride-hailing services and logistics companies.
Consumers can expect clear labeling at the pump and pricing that remains competitive with standard premium fuels. Shell has pledged that this innovation will not come at a steep premium, making it accessible to the everyday driver looking for better value and eco-friendly options.
As the automotive world continues to evolve, innovations like Shell’s 15km-plus formula show that meaningful advancements in fuel technology are still possible — and urgently needed. It’s not just about going farther; it’s about driving smarter, cleaner, and more responsibly.
