Nigerian political activist and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has sparked a wave of online discourse after publicly offering a ₦1 million reward to anyone who can uncover the real identity of a disturbing X (formerly Twitter) user who posted a death wish targeting the family of Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The controversial post, which has since gone viral, involved a faceless X handle praying that Peter Obi would experience the personal tragedy of burying his wife and children. The vile message triggered widespread outrage across social media, with many Nigerians condemning it as inhumane and reprehensible—regardless of political affiliations.

Reacting strongly to the incident, Omokri—an outspoken supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—expressed shock and disgust at the post. While he has often clashed politically with Obi’s supporters, Omokri drew a firm line when it came to personal and familial attacks.

“Even in politics, there should be boundaries. Disagreeing on ideas is one thing, but wishing death upon an innocent woman and children is satanic,” Omokri said in a video statement posted online. “I will pay ₦1 million to anyone who can reliably identify the individual behind that account. We must not let this evil go unpunished.”

Known for his controversial takes and sharp political commentary, Omokri emphasized that his gesture is not an endorsement of Peter Obi’s politics but a moral stand against dehumanization in Nigerian political discourse. He urged Nigerians, especially young social media users, to learn the importance of civil debate and to shun extremism and hate speech in all forms.

“This is not about Obi or Tinubu or Atiku. This is about common decency. Let us not allow the anonymity of social media to turn us into beasts,” he added.

Omokri also warned that he would explore legal avenues once the individual is identified, calling on tech-savvy Nigerians and digital investigators to step forward with verifiable leads.

The offer has since drawn mixed reactions, with some praising Omokri for rising above politics to defend human dignity, while others accused him of hypocrisy, citing his past online spats. Nevertheless, the ₦1 million bounty has reignited debates about the growing toxicity on Nigerian social media and the urgent need for digital responsibility.

As of now, the identity of the user remains unknown, but Omokri’s challenge has already attracted the attention of several cyber-investigators and digital activists.

With emotions still high, many hope this episode will serve as a wake-up call to restore some measure of decency in Nigeria’s increasingly polarized political landscape.
