World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and the global wrestling community are in mourning following the death of one of its most iconic figures, Hulk Hogan, who passed away at the age of 71 after reportedly suffering a fatal heart attack.
Born Terry Eugene Bollea on August 11, 1953, Hulk Hogan was more than just a wrestler — he was a pop culture phenomenon. His signature bandana, handlebar mustache, rippling muscles, and booming catchphrases like “Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?” became synonymous with the golden age of professional wrestling during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Hogan rose to fame as the face of WWE (formerly WWF), headlining multiple editions of WrestleMania and captivating millions with his charisma, in-ring performances, and larger-than-life persona. He played a crucial role in turning wrestling into a global entertainment juggernaut, transcending sports and establishing a fan base that included kids, teens, and adults alike.
Outside the ring, Hogan ventured into acting, reality television, and music. He starred in films such as No Holds Barred and Suburban Commando, and even had his own reality TV show, Hogan Knows Best, which aired in the mid-2000s. Despite personal controversies and legal battles that surfaced later in life, Hogan remained a revered and polarizing figure in the wrestling world.
In 2005, Hogan was rightfully inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest and most influential wrestlers in the sport’s history. Tributes have poured in from fans, fellow wrestlers, and entertainers, many of whom credit Hogan with inspiring their careers and shaping the identity of modern wrestling.
WWE released a brief statement expressing “deep sadness” over the passing of the legend, calling him “a true pioneer who brought wrestling to mainstream audiences around the world.”
Hulk Hogan is survived by his children and loved ones, who have asked for privacy during this time of grief.
As the wrestling world mourns this monumental loss, one thing is certain — the legacy of Hulk Hogan, the ultimate embodiment of “Hulkamania,” will live on forever.
Rest in power, brother.
