In a move celebrating the cultural impact of Nigerian music, the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has renamed the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop to Baddo Bus Stop, paying tribute to homegrown rap legend Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Baddo.
The announcement was made on Friday, July 25, during the commissioning of newly completed projects within the Bariga area. Chairman of the LCDA, Kolade Alabi David, revealed the decision as part of efforts to recognize and honour notable individuals who have brought pride to the community through their achievements.
Olamide, a native of Bariga, has long been associated with the area both in his lyrics and personal story. Over the years, he has risen to become one of Nigeria’s most influential music figures, using his platform to uplift other artists and put Bariga on the map.
The renamed bus stop, formerly known as Charly Boy, had been a longstanding landmark named after veteran musician and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy. As of now, Charly Boy has not issued any public response to the name change.
Residents and fans have reacted with excitement, many praising the gesture as a fitting tribute to Olamide’s contribution to the music industry and his roots in the community.
“This is a proud moment for Bariga,” said one resident. “Olamide has always represented us, and this recognition is well-deserved.”
The renaming signals a growing trend of honouring contemporary figures in Nigerian pop culture who continue to inspire a new generation through music, creativity, and resilience.
