British-Nigerian heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has sent shockwaves through the boxing world after revealing that 2025 might be the year he calls time on his illustrious career. The two-time unified world champion made the candid revelation during a recent interview, sparking widespread speculation about his future in the sport.

At 35, Joshua remains one of the most recognizable faces in global boxing. With a career that has seen him reclaim titles, headline sold-out arenas, and become a symbol of discipline and resilience, his potential retirement would mark the end of an era. But the heavyweight star now says he’s seriously considering stepping away from the ring within the next year.

“I’ve been boxing for a long time, and the body doesn’t recover the way it used to,” Joshua said. “2025 might be the year I wrap it all up. I’ve done a lot in the sport, and there are other things in life I want to explore and focus on.”

The statement comes just months after Joshua’s emphatic knockout victory over Francis Ngannou in March 2025 — a performance that reignited talk of another title shot or even a long-anticipated showdown with Tyson Fury. But while fans had hoped to see Joshua dominate the division once again, his recent comments suggest he may be preparing for a graceful exit, rather than an extended campaign.

Joshua, who made his professional debut in 2013 after winning Olympic gold at London 2012, has compiled an impressive record of victories against the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Andy Ruiz Jr., Joseph Parker, and Alexander Povetkin. Though he faced setbacks in his losses to Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua’s determination and comebacks have cemented his legacy as one of the greatest heavyweights of his generation.

“It’s not just about belts anymore,” Joshua added. “It’s about peace, purpose, and doing what’s right for my future. I’m not saying 2025 is guaranteed to be the end — but it’s a real possibility.”

The boxing community has reacted with mixed emotions — from admiration for Joshua’s honesty to disappointment that his time in the sport could be nearing its end. Promoters, fans, and fellow fighters have all weighed in, urging AJ to reconsider and savor his remaining years at the top.

While nothing is official yet, Joshua’s remarks have undoubtedly opened the door to the final chapter of his storied career. Whether 2025 will be his last dance remains to be seen — but one thing is certain: if and when he does bow out, Anthony Joshua will leave behind a legacy built on power, perseverance, and pride.
