In a strategic move to ensure continuity and professional leadership within Nigeria’s emergency response framework, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the new Controller-General (CG) of the Federal Fire Service (FFS). His appointment, which takes effect from August 14, 2025, was officially announced by Major General Abdulmalik Jibril (rtd), Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), on behalf of the president.
The appointment follows the scheduled retirement of the current CG, Engr. Abdulganiyu Jaji Olola, who is set to bow out on August 11, 2025, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
Adeyemi, who previously served as Deputy Controller-General in charge of Human Resources at the FFS Headquarters, is widely regarded as a seasoned officer with extensive experience in fire service operations. He began his professional journey with the FCT Fire Service before transferring to the Federal Fire Service, where he steadily rose through the ranks due to his diligence and competence.
According to the CDCFIB, Adeyemi has undergone and excelled in all required in-service and command trainings, including international courses that have further sharpened his emergency response capabilities. Beyond his operational qualifications, he also brings a strong administrative and financial background, being a fellow and active member of prestigious professional bodies such as the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, and the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management of Nigeria.
In its statement, the Board also extended heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing CG, Engr. Olola, for his exceptional leadership and contributions to the modernization of the Service, particularly through reforms, infrastructural upgrades, and personnel welfare initiatives.
As Olumode Adeyemi prepares to take the helm, expectations are high for a more responsive, innovative, and professionally driven Fire Service capable of tackling Nigeria’s increasing fire-related challenges and emergencies.
