In a landmark move that signals a major shift in global supply chain strategy, Apple Inc. has announced plans to invest a staggering $100 billion into U.S. manufacturing over the next ten years. The tech giant, known for its sleek devices and cutting-edge technology, said the investment will focus on boosting domestic production capacity, creating high-paying jobs, and reducing reliance on overseas suppliers—particularly in Asia. The investment, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook, is “part of a long-term vision to make America not only a hub for innovation, but also a powerhouse of advanced manufacturing.” The ambitious initiative will fund the construction of new manufacturing facilities, the expansion of existing ones, and the development of AI-powered robotics and automation in Apple’s U.S.-based factories. For decades, Apple has relied heavily on a global supply chain, with much of its manufacturing concentrated in China and Southeast Asia. Apple’s plan also includes working closely with U.S.-based suppliers to ensure key components—from chips to screens—are manufactured locally. This includes potential partnerships or investments in American semiconductor fabrication, battery technology, and precision tooling. In recent years, Apple has already begun assembling some of its products like the Mac Pro in the U.S., but this latest move represents a far broader and more sustained effort. “This is not a symbolic gesture,” said Cook. “It’s a fundamental rethinking of how and where we build the future.” Apple’s historic investment is likely to ripple through the entire tech sector, prompting competitors and suppliers to reconsider their manufacturing footprints. It could also become a key talking point in upcoming U.S. elections, with politicians touting it as a win for American industry and jobs.
