Trump calls for Intel boss Lip-Bu Tan to resign over alleged China ties

President Donald Trump has called for the immediate resignation of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), citing alleged ties to the Chinese government. The bold accusation, made via his Truth Social account, has triggered political uproar and reignited debates around foreign influence and national security at the highest levels of U.S. government.

Trump alleged that the current intelligence chief has “disturbing connections” with individuals and organizations believed to be affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party. He insisted that such links represent a clear conflict of interest and a threat to national security.

“How can we trust our intelligence leadership if there are even remote connections to China?” the president stated. “The American people deserve total loyalty and transparency from those who protect our nation from foreign threats. This person must resign immediately.”

The President did not immediately provide evidence to support his claims but hinted that more details would soon come to light. The statement has sparked intense responses from lawmakers, with some Republican allies backing the call for investigation, while Democratic leaders have criticized the remarks as unfounded and politically charged.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) has not officially commented, though a senior intelligence official anonymously dismissed the accusations as “completely baseless” and said the DNI remains fully committed to upholding U.S. national security interests.

This latest confrontation underscores growing tension between the White House and elements of the intelligence community amid broader concerns about China’s role in global cyber activities, trade competition, and international espionage.

While supporters applaud Trump’s tough stance on foreign influence, critics warn that repeated attacks on intelligence officials could erode trust and morale within agencies tasked with safeguarding the nation.

As the story develops, all eyes are now on Capitol Hill, where pressure is mounting for either an independent probe or a strong defense from the embattled intelligence chief. Trump, however, has made his position unmistakably clear: resign now, or face what he calls a national reckoning.
