Former Ogun State governor and serving senator, Gbenga Daniel, has strongly refuted claims that Senate President Godswill Akpabio is hospitalised in London, while the Presidency has also dismissed reports alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is ill.
In a statement on Monday, Daniel described the speculation about Akpabio’s health as “baseless and misleading,” insisting that the Senate President is in good health and currently in London on a short private trip — not for any medical emergency as suggested by online rumours.
“I can confirm without hesitation that Senator Godswill Akpabio is fine. The false news of his hospitalisation is nothing but deliberate misinformation aimed at causing unnecessary panic and political mischief,” Daniel said.
Similarly, the Presidency issued a swift rebuttal to claims that President Tinubu is battling illness, stressing that there is “no truth whatsoever” in the reports. Presidential spokespersons said the president remains active and committed to his duties, describing the rumours as another attempt to distract from the administration’s ongoing work.
Both Daniel and the Presidency urged Nigerians to be wary of unverified information, especially on sensitive matters concerning public officials, and called for responsible use of media platforms.
The clarifications come amid a surge of political speculation fueled by recent absences of high-profile leaders from certain public events. The statements are expected to calm tensions and shift public focus back to governance rather than rumours.
