The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, declaring that he will extend his backing to anyone who aligns with and supports the Tinubu administration.

Wike made this commitment on Thursday during the flag-off of Lot 2 of the Water Supply Project in Karu, where he praised former FCT Senator Philip Aduda and the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, for their contributions to community development.

The minister, while responding to Aduda’s request for a road project in Karu, promised immediate action.

“There is a road you mentioned, about 2km. Consider it done,” Wike assured. “In politics, the principle is simple: support those who have the capacity to bring something tangible to their people. Support those that government will listen to.”

Praise for Maikalangu’s Performance

Wike also heaped commendations on AMAC Chairman Maikalangu, describing him as hardworking and effective in using his access to government for the benefit of residents. He listed several projects initiated under Maikalangu’s tenure, including the Saburi Road, Kabusa-Takushere Road, Deidei Road, and others that have improved infrastructure in the council.

“The chairman has access to us. Anything he tells us, we will do. This is the only man I know. If he wins re-election, we will give him whatever he wants. I don’t know the party he belongs to, but I know that he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” Wike declared.

Tinubu’s Government “Fulfilling Promises”

Speaking further, Wike criticized past administrations for neglecting Karu and failing to provide potable water, despite years in power. He contrasted this with the Tinubu government’s delivery of water projects in the community.

“For years, governments came and went, yet Karu had no clean water. Did they ever fulfill that promise? No. But this government promised water, and today we are delivering it. Agreement is agreement, and the people will remember the government that remembered them,” he said.

Political Context

Aduda, who represented the FCT in the Senate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between 2011 and 2023, lost his seat in the last general elections. Maikalangu, on the other hand, defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2024 and is currently seeking re-election as AMAC chairman in the February 2026 area council polls.

Wike’s comments are seen as a strong signal that his political support will remain tied to President Tinubu’s camp and those aligned with the administration’s vision.
