The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed the recovery of a second body following the tragic accident in which a Toyota Camry plunged into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge last Saturday, August 23, 2025.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning inward Iyana Iworo, initially claimed the life of 27-year-old Aisha Maikudi Ibrahim, whose body was retrieved shortly after the crash by local divers and handed over to her family for burial.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 27, LASWA revealed that further investigations had uncovered the presence of a second passenger in the vehicle, contrary to earlier reports that Aisha was driving alone. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Chado Daniel Danladi, was later confirmed dead.

Danladi, a resident of 7 Oremeta Street, Off Opebi Link Bridge, Ikeja, was said to be a colleague of Aisha. His remains were recovered during an extended search-and-rescue operation and subsequently handed over to his family.

Outpouring of Grief

Friends, relatives, and colleagues of the victims have since taken to social media to mourn the loss. One mourner, Uwana Anthony, shared photographs of the deceased pair with the tribute: “Rest on Aisha and Chado.”

Both Aisha and Chado were reportedly returning from an event in Ikoyi, where they had been working as vendors, before their vehicle somersaulted and plunged into the lagoon.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying rescue responses on Lagos waterways while investigations into the circumstances of the crash continue.
