The Federal Government has launched an investigation into the recent Abuja–Kaduna train incident, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu awaiting a comprehensive report on the matter.
The mishap, which caused panic among passengers, has once again raised safety concerns about the nation’s rail system. Authorities confirmed that while no fatalities were recorded, the disruption underscored lingering operational and infrastructural challenges on the busy route.
A statement from the Presidency revealed that President Tinubu has directed relevant agencies to determine both the immediate and remote causes of the incident and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
“The President has made it clear that Nigerians must not live in fear when using public infrastructure. He is awaiting a full briefing and expects accountability and solutions, not excuses,” the statement noted.
Transportation officials have also assured passengers that temporary safety measures have been activated pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Abuja–Kaduna corridor, considered one of the busiest in the country, has faced multiple challenges in recent years, including the 2022 terrorist attack that claimed lives and disrupted services for months.
Analysts say the probe will be a major test of the government’s commitment to restoring public confidence in the railway system, which has been projected as a key alternative to road travel in the region.
