Two young men were allegedly murd£red along First Gate in Iba, LASU-Igando road, Lagos State. The bodies of the men were seen lying face down close to a canal in the area.

Residents of Iba community, along the busy LASU-Igando expressway, woke up to a horrifying discovery on Tuesday morning — the lifeless bodies of two young men dumped near a canal at First Gate.

The victims, both stripped to the waist, had their hands and feet tightly bound behind them. Their heads were covered with blue plastic bags, suggesting they were suffocated after being tortured. Visible marks on their backs and shoulders indicated they had been severely flogged before death.

Grim Discovery Near Canal

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the bodies were found face down around dawn, raising suspicion that the men had been killed overnight and abandoned at the spot.

“It looks like they were beaten badly before being suffocated. The way their bodies were tied and covered shows they were executed deliberately,” a resident who requested anonymity explained.

Shocked passersby gathered at the scene for most of the morning, taking photos and videos that quickly circulated on social media, sparking outrage and fear across Lagos.

Community in Fear

The killings have thrown the Iba–Igando axis into panic, with many residents questioning who the victims were and why they were targeted. Some speculated it may have been the work of cult groups or a retaliatory gang attack, while others suspected vigilante-style justice gone wrong.

“This place has seen violence before, but this is the first time we’re seeing something this brutal,” another witness said. “Nobody deserves to die like this. It’s scary because it means anybody could be next.”

Authorities Yet to Act

As of Tuesday evening, when this report was filed, the bodies remained at the scene, with no official response from security agencies. Locals expressed frustration at the slow reaction from law enforcement, saying the gruesome sight had traumatized the community.

Human rights advocates have also condemned the act, describing it as an extrajudicial killing. They called on the Lagos State Police Command to launch a full investigation and ensure that those behind the crime are brought to justice.

Call for Justice

The killings have once again highlighted the growing insecurity in Lagos suburbs, where violent crimes — including cult clashes, mob actions, and targeted assassinations — have been on the rise. Community leaders are now urging authorities to increase patrols along the LASU-Igando corridor and restore residents’ confidence in public safety.

For the families of the victims, whose identities had not been confirmed at press time, the tragedy is a chilling reminder of the unchecked violence plaguing many neighborhoods in Lagos.
