A shocking tragedy unfolded at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem on Wednesday afternoon when conservative activist and Trump ally, Charlie Kirk, was shot and later pronounced dead while speaking to students at a Turning Point USA event.
The shooting happened around 12:20 p.m. during a Q&A session near the campus food court. Witnesses said a single gunshot rang out, striking Kirk in the neck and sending the crowd into chaos as students and attendees scrambled for safety.
Scott Trotter, spokesperson for UVU, confirmed the incident in an official statement:
“On September 10, 2025, at approximately 12:20 p.m., an incident involving gunfire occurred on the quad near the food court as Mr. Charlie Kirk began his scheduled appearance. We regret to confirm that Mr. Kirk was shot and later pronounced dead from his injuries. The suspect fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended. Law enforcement is actively investigating, and the campus has been closed for the rest of the day.”
Police are still working to determine the identity of the shooter and the motive behind the attack. Authorities have urged students, staff, and members of the public with information to come forward.
Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA, was a well-known conservative activist and outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump. His sudden death has sent shockwaves across the political landscape, with tributes and reactions flooding in from supporters, political figures, and commentators nationwide.
