Amidst the growing concerns over insecurity in Nigeria, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, CSP Joel Yamu, has urged Nigerians to adopt a cautious lifestyle to safeguard themselves from criminal attacks.
In a safety advisory shared on social media, Yamu emphasized the importance of maintaining a low profile, particularly in the face of rising incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery, and targeted assaults. He cautioned citizens against flaunting wealth or indulging in flashy lifestyles that could attract unwanted attention from criminals.
“People need to understand that criminals study behaviors. By displaying excessive wealth, whether through expensive cars, jewelry, or social media posts, individuals increase their chances of being targeted,” the police spokesperson noted.
His message has drawn wide attention online, resonating with many Nigerians who have witnessed or experienced the impact of insecurity in their communities. Security experts also echo his warning, adding that lifestyle adjustments, vigilance, and community cooperation remain crucial to personal safety.
The Edo Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while stressing that the public also has a role to play by practicing discretion and adopting preventive measures in their daily lives.
