The Nigerian movie industry has lost one of its seasoned performers, Duro Michael, who passed away at the age of 67.
The news of his death was confirmed by film producer Stanley Ontop, who shared the development in an emotional post on social media. Ontop revealed that the respected actor died after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness, describing the loss as a painful blow to Nollywood.
“Duro Michael gave his all to the industry. It’s heartbreaking that we keep losing our legends this way,” Ontop lamented.
Michael was widely admired for his versatility and memorable roles in hit films such as Midnight Love (2003) and The Guilty (2006). Colleagues and fans alike have been pouring in tributes, praising his professionalism, humility, and contribution to the growth of the Nigerian film industry.
The actor’s death has once again reignited conversations about the welfare of veteran performers in Nollywood, with many calling for stronger support systems to help industry pioneers during times of illness or retirement.
