Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has made it mandatory for members of his cabinet to wear the Asiwaju mandate cap, saying it is now a badge of loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration.
The governor gave the order in Benin City on Tuesday while swearing in 19 newly appointed Commissioners, as well as board chairmen and members of various state parastatals.
According to him, wearing the symbolic cap was a way of demonstrating alignment with the president’s leadership, which he credited for providing stability and support to Edo State.
“This cap is not just attire; it is a symbol of solidarity,” Okpebholo said. “Any Commissioner who attends our Executive Council meetings without the Asiwaju mandate cap will not be admitted. We owe it to the president to show where we stand.”
The governor, while addressing the new appointees, emphasized discipline, unity of purpose, and visible loyalty to both his administration and the presidency. He warned that non-compliance with the directive would not be tolerated.
The ceremony also witnessed the formal inauguration of the Senior Secondary Education Board and the Edo State Law Reform Commission, bodies expected to drive reforms in education and legal development across the state.
