In a landmark gesture of support for regional security, former militant leader and Chairman of Tantita Security Services, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has announced a staggering donation of ₦10 billion to the Delta State Security Trust Fund (DSSTF).

The announcement was made on Tuesday, October 15, during a high-profile fundraising ceremony organized by the Delta State Government.

From Creek General to Security Stakeholder

Tompolo, once one of the most feared figures in the Niger Delta militancy struggle, has in recent years transitioned into a critical partner in the fight against oil theft and insecurity in the region. Through his company, Tantita Security Services, he has played a major role in protecting vital oil infrastructure and curbing illegal bunkering activities.

His ₦10 billion donation, delivered on his behalf by the company’s Managing Director, further cements his image as a man determined to contribute to peacebuilding and economic stability in Delta State.

Ceremony at Government House

The fundraising event, hosted at the Delta State Government House, brought together government officials, security stakeholders, and captains of industry. Tompolo was received by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori before proceeding to the venue where the pledge was formally announced.

Sources at the event described the atmosphere as “electric,” noting that the announcement drew a thunderous ovation from the audience. His commitment made him the chief launcher of the Security Trust Fund drive.

A Bold Step for Regional Safety

The Delta State Security Trust Fund was established to pool resources for addressing insecurity in the state. With challenges ranging from oil theft to kidnapping and communal clashes, the fund is expected to provide critical support to law enforcement and local security initiatives.

Tompolo’s massive contribution is being hailed as a game-changer, not only for the size of the donation but also for the symbolic weight it carries. It signals the willingness of private actors—especially those with firsthand experience of the region’s complex security landscape—to invest in peace and stability.

Transforming His Legacy

Once vilified as a militant commander, Tompolo has steadily repositioned himself as an indispensable figure in Nigeria’s security architecture. His company’s work with the federal government to safeguard oil assets has already earned praise, and now, this unprecedented ₦10 billion donation underscores his new role as a benefactor of peace.

Observers believe this act could inspire more stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to security reforms.
