Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports linking him to a possible presidential run in 2027, stressing his full commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration until 2031.

The denial followed claims by an online platform that some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders were urging Wike to enter the 2027 race. In a statement issued Friday, Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, described the report as “a baseless fabrication from idle minds,” insisting that the minister’s position is clear: “It is President Tinubu till 2031.”

Olayinka accused political detractors of orchestrating the rumour to discredit Wike, adding that, “The Minister does not operate in secrecy. He is transparent about his actions and commitments.”

Speaking at the flag-off of the Collector Road C01 project linking the Body of Benchers Complex to Nile University, Wike seized the moment to emphasize the importance of constructive dialogue with government rather than online attacks.

“If you like, go to social media 50 million times, what you did not get through the door, you will not get through the window. Criticism is welcome, but it must be constructive,” Wike said.

He cited how the Body of Benchers respectfully presented requests for infrastructure during the last Call to Bar ceremony, which prompted swift approval and funding by President Tinubu under emergency procurement. The project, Wike noted, will benefit Baze University, Nile University, and surrounding communities.

Wike also revealed further development plans, including the construction of 300-bed hostels for the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, building on earlier projects such as 10 furnished bungalows delivered last year. These, he stressed, align with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Reflecting on governance, the Minister acknowledged the limits of public administration:

“Even if I remain Minister for 500 years, there will still be new problems. The key is to do your best within the available time and resources. Mr President never promised to solve everything, but he is determined to place Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth.”

Addressing speculation about a southern PDP stakeholders’ meeting held in August, Olayinka clarified it was convened to discuss internal party zoning issues, not Wike’s presidential ambition. He described attempts to link the gathering to 2027 politics as “mischievous misrepresentation.”

Reaffirming his loyalty, Olayinka stressed that Wike’s focus is on transforming Abuja into a model capital city and ensuring Tinubu’s success in office.
