BMW’s bold step into the next era of electric mobility is already paying off, as the automaker’s upcoming iX3 electric SUV has ignited unprecedented enthusiasm across Europe. The sleek, fully electric SUV — set to debut in spring 2026 — has already surpassed the sales of its gasoline-powered counterpart, signaling a major shift in consumer preferences toward sustainable luxury.
The new BMW iX3, built at the company’s cutting-edge Debrecen plant in Hungary, is the first model designed entirely around BMW’s Neue Klasse electric platform. The state-of-the-art facility has an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s transition from combustion engines to clean energy mobility.
Since its unveiling, BMW has recorded more than 3,000 pre-orders in Germany alone, outpacing demand for the traditional X3 within just six weeks. The automaker says it is now “reassessing production forecasts” to meet soaring global interest, with deliveries to Europe expected in spring 2026 and to North America later that summer.
At the heart of the iX3 lies an all-new dual-motor setup, delivering 463 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, allowing the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just under five seconds. More impressive is its 108 kWh battery, capable of achieving an estimated 800 km (500 miles) range under WLTP standards — setting a new benchmark for long-range electric driving in Europe.
During a regional showcase event in Bucharest, car enthusiasts and journalists were given an exclusive preview of the iX3. Attendees praised the car’s futuristic cabin design, anchored by a wrap-around panoramic display that redefines the driver’s cockpit experience. Reviewers also noted the vehicle’s premium materials and intuitive infotainment system that seamlessly integrates digital controls with BMW’s signature driving feel.
Industry experts believe the success of the iX3 signals a turning point for BMW. “This is not just another electric car,” said automotive analyst Florian Keller. “The iX3 represents BMW’s ability to reinvent itself without losing its DNA — performance, precision, and premium quality.”
The iX3 will compete directly with Tesla’s Model Y, the Mercedes EQC, and Audi Q8 e-tron. Pricing in Germany starts at €68,900, with top-trim versions reaching €80,000. U.S. pricing will be announced closer to launch but is expected to exceed $60,000.
With the debut of the iX3, BMW is not just following the electric revolution — it’s accelerating it.
