From hawking bread on the streets of Sapele to building one of Africa’s most influential technology empires, Nnamdi Ezeigbo’s story is one of grit, innovation, and an unshakable belief in possibilities.
Born on August 4, 1966, in Sapele, Delta State, Nigeria, Ezeigbo hails from Nsukwe in Ubakala, Umuahia, Abia State. The first of nine children, he grew up in a humble household where survival meant sacrifice and hard work. His mother, a bread seller, depended on him to help hawk her goods after school — a routine that unknowingly shaped his business instincts and resilience.
The Foundation of a Dream
Ezeigbo’s pursuit of knowledge was relentless. He began at Pamol Primary School in Sapele and attended Ogini Grammar School, Abraka, completing his secondary education in 1984. Determined to create a better future, he moved to Lagos to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Yaba College of Technology, earning a Higher National Diploma. but his hunger for growth didn’t stop there.
He went on to obtain a degree in Computer and Electronics Engineering from Lagos State University, graduating with a Second-Class Upper in 2001. Later, he pursued a Master’s in Information and Management Technology from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, before enrolling at Lagos Business School and the prestigious Harvard Business School, where he refined his leadership and entrepreneurial acumen.
From Job Seeker to Job Creator
Armed with multiple degrees, Ezeigbo stepped into the real world — and was met with rejection. Despite his qualifications, job opportunities were scarce. Instead of giving up, he turned adversity into innovation. He decided to learn computer repair, mastering the skill until he could confidently strike out on his own.
In Lagos, he started repairing computers and later expanded into selling phone accessories as mobile technology began to rise across Nigeria. His honesty, technical expertise, and deep respect for his customers set him apart.
One loyal client, impressed by his integrity, helped him secure a larger space and provided printers to sell. With that boost, SLOT Systems Limited was born — a modest business that would grow into one of Nigeria’s most trusted technology retail chains.
The Birth of a Tech Revolution
As SLOT expanded, Ezeigbo’s entrepreneurial vision evolved. In the early 2000s, he noticed a glaring need among Nigerian phone users: the ability to use multiple SIM cards. At the time, people carried several phones to manage different network providers — a costly and inconvenient reality.
When Nokia dismissed his idea of a dual-SIM phone, Ezeigbo refused to give up. On a business trip to China, he met a former engineer from Bird Mobile Company, and together they developed Nigeria’s first dual-SIM mobile device. That innovation birthed Tecno Mobile.
The first model, the Tecno T101, failed — both SIMs couldn’t operate simultaneously. But Ezeigbo’s team quickly improved the design, releasing the Tecno T201, which became an instant success. By 2007, Tecno had captured the Nigerian market, transforming the country’s mobile landscape forever.
Riding on this success, Ezeigbo introduced Infinix, a brand tailored for tech-savvy consumers who desired sleek, high-performance smartphones at affordable prices. Today, both Tecno and Infinix dominate African markets, competing favorably with global giants like Samsung and Apple — and serving millions of users across the continent.
Beyond Business: The Man Behind the Brand
Behind the empire is a man of deep values and family devotion. Nnamdi met his wife, Nkechi, at a bus stop in Ikeja, Lagos — a serendipitous encounter that blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Married in 1998, the couple has built not just a business but a shared legacy. Nkechi, a strong entrepreneur in her own right, has been instrumental in SLOT’s success. Together, they are blessed with four children — three sons and a daughter.
A Legacy of Innovation and Impact
From a small computer repair shop to a multinational technology enterprise, Nnamdi Ezeigbo has redefined what it means to dream big from humble beginnings. His journey is proof that Africa’s potential lies not in imported solutions, but in homegrown innovation powered by vision, integrity, and persistence.
Today, SLOT has over 70 retail outlets across Nigeria, employing hundreds and empowering thousands more through partnerships and training programs. Ezeigbo continues to inspire a new generation of African entrepreneurs — showing that with purpose and perseverance, even the smallest beginnings can spark revolutions.
In His Own Words
“I believe that greatness is not born from comfort, but from the courage to see beyond limitations and create value for others.”
Through Tecno, Infinix, and SLOT, Nnamdi Ezeigbo has not only changed how Africans communicate — he has proven that innovation, when rooted in service and vision, can transform lives across the world.
