Popular Nepali singer Neetu Poudel has died after sustaining severe burn injuries from a self-immolation attempt. She passed away on Friday morning while receiving treatment at the Nepal Cleft and Burn Centre, Kirtipur Hospital, authorities confirmed.

According to Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of the Kathmandu District Police Range, Poudel succumbed to her injuries despite doctors’ efforts to save her. The singer had reportedly poured petrol over herself and set her body on fire on Saturday afternoon, prompting immediate rescue and emergency hospitalization.

“She was brought to the hospital with critical burns and placed under intensive care, but her condition continued to deteriorate,” Bhattarai said.

Police sources revealed that following the incident, singer Babul Giri was summoned for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

While details about the motive remain unclear, authorities have not ruled out possible personal or professional distress.

Fans and fellow artists have taken to social media to express their grief and disbelief, describing Poudel as a “bright, soulful voice” in Nepal’s contemporary music scene.

Her death has reignited conversations about mental health and emotional well-being within the entertainment industry, where pressures of fame and personal struggles often go unnoticed until tragedy strikes.

Police said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
