Nigerian music star J. Martins, whose real name is Martins Okey Justice E., has survived a harrowing road accident after the vehicle he was travelling in reportedly suffered brake failure and veered off the busy Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.
The incident took place on Monday and, according to reports, the car lost control and plunged into a thick bush after leaving the roadway at speed.
In an interview following the crash, Martins expressed deep gratitude for having emerged without a fatal injury. “It’s only God that will be praised. My car failed to brake and lost control… I came out without death,” he told ABN TV.
Martins currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment to the Governor of Abia State.

Implications & next steps
The incident highlights concerns about vehicle maintenance and road infrastructure in Nigeria. Martins himself urged drivers to prioritise proper servicing of their vehicles and called on government agencies to improve major highways.
Though no fatalities were reported and Martins appears physically okay, even minor accidents of this nature can have long-term implications for health and career, especially for a public figure.
We will continue to monitor developments regarding his health, any official statements made by his management, and whether an investigation into the road condition or vehicle fault will follow.
