The ongoing Anambra State governorship election has taken an interesting turn as the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, emerged victorious at the polling unit of former governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

Peter Obi, who cast his vote at Umudimakasi, Agulu Ward 2, Polling Unit 008, in Anaocha Local Government Area, arrived to a warm reception from residents and supporters eager to witness his participation in the electoral process.

However, results announced by the presiding officer revealed that Soludo polled 19 votes, defeating his closest contender, Nicholas Chukwujekwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 10 votes.

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) secured 4 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed just 1 vote at the same polling unit.

The development has sparked mixed reactions among political observers, given Obi’s strong influence and deep political roots in Anambra State.

Governor Soludo’s early lead in key areas, including Peter Obi’s polling unit, is being seen as a major confidence boost for APGA as collation continues across the state.

Election observers have commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise, noting the impressive turnout and calm atmosphere at most polling units.

With results still trickling in from other local government areas, all eyes remain on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as Anambra residents await the final declaration of results in what promises to be one of the most closely watched elections in the state’s recent history.
