The Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced a postponement of the much-anticipated rehabilitation of the Lekki–Ajah corridor, which was initially slated to begin on Saturday, 15th November 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, explained that the commencement of full rehabilitation works has been deferred to a later date, which will be communicated to the public in due course.
“While preliminary activities will continue until the end of the month, full rehabilitation works will not begin until the revised schedule is announced,” the statement read.
“The State Government appreciates the understanding and patience of all road users as it remains committed to improving road infrastructure and ensuring safer, more efficient transportation for all.”
The announcement follows growing concerns from Lagos residents who feared that beginning major roadworks along the busy Lekki–Ajah corridor during the festive period could worsen traffic congestion and inconvenience commuters.
The delay allows authorities to carry out preliminary activities, such as surveying and minor preparatory works, without causing significant disruption to daily traffic. Full-scale construction will commence only after the new timeline is finalized, according to LASG.
Officials emphasized that the postponement is part of a broader strategy to ensure that the project is executed smoothly and safely, with minimal impact on residents and commercial activities along the corridor.
The Lekki–Ajah road is a key artery connecting major commercial and residential hubs, making its rehabilitation crucial for long-term traffic management and infrastructure development in Lagos State.
With the festive season approaching, the state government has assured residents that it will provide updates on traffic management and alternate routes once the project resumes.
“Our commitment to improving Lagos roads remains unwavering,” Commissioner Osiyemi added. “We are taking every measure to ensure that the project enhances mobility while prioritizing the safety and convenience of road users.”
Residents and commuters are advised to stay tuned for announcements regarding the new schedule and any traffic advisories related to the rehabilitation works.
