Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has been confirmed dead after collapsing in his office on Thursday afternoon, December 11.
According to official sources, the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. inside his office at Government House, Yenagoa. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where medical personnel made efforts to resuscitate him. He was later pronounced dead.
Hospital Confirms His Passing
Reports from Vanguard indicate that the deputy governor arrived at the hospital in critical condition and was taken directly into the emergency unit before being certified dead by attending doctors.
A Life of Public Service
Born on September 5, 1965, Senator Ewhrudjakpo was 60 years old at the time of his death. Before becoming deputy governor, he served in various capacities, including as a senator representing Bayelsa West.
Sources Point to Exhaustion
Those close to him described him as a dedicated public servant with a “relentless” work culture. Sources revealed that he had maintained an exceptionally demanding schedule and rarely took time to rest, prompting concerns about stress and exhaustion.
