Several people have died and scores were injured after a fire broke out during a New Year’s party at an Alpine ski resort in southern Switzerland.
According to Valais police spokesperson Gaetan Lathion, the blaze occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. at the Le Constellation lounge bar in Crans-Montana, a popular destination in the canton of Valais.
“There are several injuries and several fatalities,” Lathion confirmed, though exact figures have not yet been released. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
A joint press conference with local police and the canton’s public prosecutor is scheduled for later today to provide more information.
Crans-Montana, known for its luxury resorts and winter tourism, has been rocked by this tragic incident as celebrations for the new year were underway.
