The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stepped up its preparations for the 2027 general elections, launching a fresh political outreach aimed at drawing prominent national figures into its fold.

The party’s renewed push followed the inauguration of its North-East Zonal Congress Committee, an exercise the ADC described as part of a broader effort to strengthen its internal framework and expand its national presence.

Speaking after the inauguration ceremony held in Gombe State on January 11, the factional National Chairman of the party, Nafiu Gombe, said the ADC was repositioning itself to become a credible alternative on the national political stage. His remarks were contained in a communiqué issued on Tuesday.

Gombe explained that the newly inaugurated committee would oversee the conduct of congresses across the North-East, a process he said was crucial to entrenching transparency, fairness and internal democracy within the party. The ceremony was organised by the party’s national leadership and chaired by Dr. Muhammad Muhammad.

As part of the exercise, the ADC ratified key appointments to manage the zonal process. Mrs. Patience Alex was named Chairperson of the North-East Zonal Congress Committee, while Mr. Abayomi Adekunle was appointed Chairman of the Zonal Appeal Committee.

According to Gombe, the selections reflect the party’s resolve to build a disciplined and inclusive political platform capable of attracting Nigerians from diverse backgrounds, regardless of region or political history.

Beyond internal restructuring, the ADC used the occasion to extend an open invitation to several high-profile political leaders, both serving and former, urging them to join the party’s vision for national renewal ahead of the next election cycle.

“The authentic leadership of the ADC is reaching out to patriotic Nigerians with proven experience and capacity to help reposition the country,” Gombe said.

Among those invited are former President Goodluck Jonathan; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde; Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed; Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri; Abia State Governor Alex Otti; and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Gombe said the party believes the collective experience and political weight of these figures could help galvanise a broad coalition capable of offering Nigerians a new direction in governance.

He added that the ADC would continue to focus on building strong grassroots structures nationwide as it prepares to play a more prominent role in the 2027 general elections.
