The United States has delivered critical military supplies to Nigeria, bolstering the country’s efforts to combat terrorism and enhance security operations nationwide.
The announcement was made by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming that the equipment was formally handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja. AFRICOM described the delivery as part of its ongoing commitment to a strategic security partnership with Nigeria.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and underscores our shared security partnership,” the command said, tagging the United States Mission in Nigeria (@USinNigeria).
This support comes amid continued collaboration between Nigeria and its international partners to strengthen capacity in addressing terrorism and violent extremism across the country. In November 2025, the Nigerian presidency under Bola Tinubu had formally requested assistance from the United States to deploy military support in certain states facing heightened terrorist threats.
Following this request, an airstrike was conducted on December 25, 2025, in coordination with Nigerian forces, targeting terrorist positions in the North West region. The Federal Government confirmed that intelligence and security cooperation with the United States remain ongoing, emphasizing structured partnerships, strategic coordination, and respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the collaboration includes intelligence sharing, operational planning, and other forms of assistance under international law and joint security commitments.
US Congressman Riley Moore praised the coordinated efforts, describing the airstrikes and support as “a decisive move to protect communities and address the persistent security challenges facing Nigeria.”
The delivery of supplies signals an expansion of the US–Nigeria security partnership, aimed at strengthening the country’s counterterrorism capabilities and safeguarding citizens across affected regions.
