The Chairman of the Presidential Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has dismissed reports suggesting that the Federal Government has halted the issuance of implementation guidelines for Nigeria’s newly enacted tax laws.
Earlier reports circulating online claimed that Oyedele made the disclosure while speaking at an event organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). According to the reports, the alleged suspension was linked to uncertainties surrounding the final approved versions of the tax laws, as well as speculation that fake gazetted copies were in circulation.
Oyedele, however, firmly denied the claims. In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday afternoon, he described the reports as “fake news,” making it clear that no such suspension has taken place.
His clarification has put to rest speculation that the Federal Government was delaying the release of guidelines due to confusion over the new tax regime.
The denial comes amid heightened public interest and debate over Nigeria’s tax reforms, with government officials continuing to assure stakeholders of transparency and clarity in the implementation process.
