U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticised the 68th Grammy Awards, taking direct aim at the ceremony and its host, Trevor Noah, following a joke made about him during the live broadcast.
Moments after the show ended, President Trump reacted on Truth Social, branding the Grammys “virtually unwatchable” and accusing Noah of abusing the platform to make what he described as false and defamatory remarks.
Trump did not mince words, referring to the comedian as “a total loser” and warning that he was considering legal action over comments delivered during Noah’s on-stage monologue.
The outrage was sparked by a joke Noah made while announcing one of the night’s major awards. He remarked that the prize was highly coveted—“almost as much as Trump wants Greenland”—before adding that with Jeffrey Epstein gone, Trump supposedly needed “a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton.”
The reference, which alluded to Epstein’s notorious private island in the Caribbean, drew laughter from parts of the audience but quickly ignited controversy online.
Supporters of the president condemned the remark as reckless and inappropriate, while critics defended it as political satire. Trump, however, insisted the joke crossed a legal and moral line, suggesting consequences could follow for both Noah and the Grammys organisers.
As of the time of reporting, Trevor Noah and the Recording Academy have yet to respond publicly to the president’s comments, as debate continues over the limits of comedy on one of music’s biggest global stages.
