The family of 22-year-old Nigerian student, Isaac David Satlat, has called for public assistance to bring his remains back home following his murder in Pretoria, South Africa.
Satlat, who was studying mobile engineering, reportedly worked as an e-hailing driver to support himself through school. He had been preparing for his graduation next month before his life was cut short in what relatives describe as a senseless act of violence.
According to reports, he was strangled after picking up two passengers in Pretoria West. His hijacked vehicle and lifeless body were later discovered the same day in Atteridgeville.
Family’s Emotional Appeal
Speaking on behalf of the family, his uncle, Otila Onoja, described the loss as devastating and appealed for financial contributions to enable them transport Isaac’s body back to Nigeria for burial.
“We need funds to take him back home so that he can be laid to rest in his hometown,” he said.
He also stressed the urgent need for stronger safety protections for gig workers, particularly those in ride-hailing services who often operate in high-risk conditions.
“This is very heartbreaking for us, and we need more safety for other people who are working in this job, like Isaac,” he added.
Arrest Made, Community Concern Grows
South African police have confirmed the arrest of a woman in connection with the murder and hijacking, while investigations continue and additional arrests are expected.
The incident has triggered widespread concern among Nigerians living in South Africa, especially those engaged in informal or high-risk occupations. Community leaders are calling for improved security measures and greater collaboration between authorities and ride-hailing platforms to protect drivers.
As the family mourns, they remain focused on one goal — ensuring Isaac is brought home to Nigeria for a dignified burial.
